Essie Mae Wilkinson, 89, went home to eternally live with our Heavenly Father, Sunday March 1, 2015. She was born January 31, 1926 in Bessemer, Alabama. Essie Mae was one of four children, including the late Evelyn Salter Wesson and Lois Salter Sloan. She was the daughter of Morgan Carth and Ollie Cornelia Roberts Salter. She married Thomas Morris Wilkinson on May 21, 1948 where they began their lives together. Essie Mae was a dedicated homemaker, loving wife and mother who cherished and devoted her life to her family. Essie Mae and her husband, Thomas, were married for 63 years before his passing in January 2011. Most of those years were spent in Bloomington, where Essie Mae delivered Meals on Wheels, participated in a social sorority, hosted many events using her gift of hospitality and was a charter and active member of the Evangelical Community Church, Bloomington, IN. She is survived by her brother, Morgan Carth (M.C.). Salter, II and wife Elizabeth Ann of Kemah, TX; daughter, Evelyn Rebecca (Becky) Foltz and husband Tom of Indianapolis, IN; sons, Thomas Morgan Wilkinson of Houston, TX and Jeffrey Morris Wilkinson and wife Rhonda of Dallas TX; and five grandchildren: Jonathan Foltz of Arlington, VA, Jennifer Foltz of Houston TX, Brandon Wilkinson of Dallas TX, and Brenna and Zachary Wilkinson of Houston, TX . A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th at Evangelical Community Church, 503 South High Street, Bloomington, IN. Essie Mae cherished her church and church family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to Evangelical Community Church, Bloomington, IN.
